If you've been keeping an eye on the team as far back as the competition in June you might have noticed a new name on our team kit. We've been working hard over the last few months to transition from a Heriot-Watt only team to working alongside Network Rail Scotland in a joint team and today we're delighted to announce that from this academic year this will become a reality.
The team will be open to Heriot-Watt students of all years and Network Rail graduate engineers in their 1st and 2nd years and we hope it will provide a unique opportunity to benefit all those involved. When HW-Rail was started it was not just about getting a working locomotive to the IMechE challenge but providing a platform to encourage students in to the rail industry, and partnering with Network Rail is the perfect way to do this. The team's purpose will be to represent and train the next generation of Scottish Railway engineers, through practical experience in a friendly, challenge based environment.
With a new start comes a new identity, so from today the team will be known as Scotland's Railway Challenge. We also have a new logo to go along with it, keeping the forth bridge as inspiration, befitting of its position as an icon of the rail network in Scotland and our new national reach.
If you're interested in joining the team from Heriot-Watt or Network Rail then head to the join the team page to find out more.
Interested but not from either of those organisations? Don't worry we're interested in hearing from individuals and organisations to see how we can grow and expand the teams reach, if this sounds interesting to you please follow the details on the contact us page and we'd be delighted to work with you.
The main aim for this year is to get a physical locomotive based on last years design ready to run for this years competition in June 2025 and we'll be posting regular updates here so keep an eye out.
